Whereas he is portrayed as a dislikable character, Manzo shows great care for his daughter Shino. He is worried that through hiring samurai the bandits will take revenge, which would harm her.
Comparison to the movieEdit
In the original movie, Manzo is also present. Just as in the series, he offers great resistance to the coming of the samurai, as well as his worry for his daughter. Here he is however forceful to turning her into a young man, so the samurai wouldn't dishonor her. The role he plays in the movie is a slightly more prominent one than in the series. However, in the movie itself he does not actually betray the samurai, and is shown to be much more scared rather than treacherous.
